Our Service Areas
OSHA & Regulatory Compliance
CHESS’s safety and health professionals can advise on what regulations and codes apply to your business. We’ll advise you about new regulations and laws and help you comply with those.
Since 1993, CHESS has helped numerous clients prepare for surprise inspections from OSHA and other regulators. And when those inspections occur, CHESS is there, onsite, to help our clients with the OSHA inspections. After an OSHA inspection, CHESS can help with the abatement process and with contesting citations.
Hazard Assessments and Controls
You can’t control what you don’t know. Hazard assessments are key to making sure your workplace is safe and your employees are protected against workplace injuries or occupational illness. Anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace hazards is a critical part of the work CHESS safety and health experts can do for you.
Injury Management
Direct and indirect costs from workplace injuries and work-related illnesses take a toll on your bottom line. You might see the immediate costs of an injury, but the indirect costs, much harder to measure, add up quickly. Decreased productivity, retraining of replacement employees, and drops in employee morale are all reasons to take injury case management seriously. Accident investigations, OSHA-required injury recording, and dealing with workers’ compensation can drain your time and financial resources.
The CHESS team of workplace injury management professionals is led by Carol Keyes, a Certified Case Manager (CCM) and Certified Rehabilitation Consultant (CRC). She has worked with hundreds of injured employees, helping them return to work after injuries.
Safety Training
Effective safety training is such a critical part of your overall safety and health program that OSHA often cites employers who do not provide it. If you want a safe workplace, your employees need to know the hazards to which they are exposed and must know what protective measures they need to take against those hazards.
CHESS safety training professionals provide in-person safety training, at your facility focusing on the real-world exposures and hazards your employees face. (Can’t do it in person? We can do real-time training via videoconference.) We will help you determine what training different employees need. We’ll develop training calendars for you, so you don’t need to remember who needs what safety training when. We’ll even remind you when your training is due.
Injury & Illness Prevention
Effective injury and illness prevention programs such as Minnesota’s AWAIR programs can help identify and correct workplace hazards before your employees are harmed. CHESS can help you develop a safety and health program that works for you. And once your programs have been developed, we can help you implement and manage them.
Industrial Hygiene
To ensure your employees are protected against chemicals, biological hazards and infectious agents, and physical agents such as noise, you need to know what they are exposed to and you need to have effective controls.
Knowing what air contaminants or sound levels to which your employees are exposed is essential to controlling those exposures and ensuring your employee exposure is below OSHA’s Permissible Exposure Limits and ACGIH’s Threshold Limit Values®.
Right To Know
Employees need to be trained and provided with information on the hazards of the chemicals they work with. Lack of training and information, required under Minnesota’s Right to Know law and federal OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard, is cited more than any other OSHA standard
Environmental Compliance
Environmental laws and regulations (hazardous waste, air quality, SARA/Community Right to Know…), emergency planning, and conservation affect all employers. Large companies have full-time staff to help with environmental compliance. Small companies don’t. But with the help of CHESS, employers of all sizes can protect their businesses against increased regulatory exposure and citations. And they can defend their reputations as good corporate citizens.
SDSLinks for Automotive Shop
You need to have safety data sheets available for nearly all of the hazardous chemicals in your shop…but that could be hundreds of different chemicals. Employees need to be able to read the SDSs if they have questions about any products…but that means they need to be able to find the right data sheet in your huge 3-ring binder or massive piles of paper. We have a better way.
