When the pandemic hit, most of our clients kept working because they were considered essential business. Our clients had to figure out how to keep their employees safe. That was a challenge, given the massive amount of often seemingly-conflicting information coming out almost daily about the novel coronavirus, a contagious, airborne virus. CHESS did a lot more than just keep our clients informed about the science and the public health recommendations. We helped with their COVID-19 Preparedness Plans and advised them on how to protect their employees and customers. We gave them guidance when employees tested positive for COVID-19.
One of our clients, a manufacturer, realized they would need to change their business. Their largest market was retail stores, and retail came to almost a complete halt at the beginning of the pandemic. So, they pivoted to making shields, barriers, and hand sanitizer dispensers. They wanted to ship half-gallon containers of sanitizer with the dispensers. This was new to them. CHESS had been working with the company for several years, primarily assisting with the environmental compliance. They knew they needed help and turned to CHESS’s industrial hygienist.
Because they were repackaging the material, they needed their own safety data sheet for it. We were able to pivot with them. The day they asked us for help, we were able to provide them with an OSHA/GHS-compliant safety data sheet we wrote for their use, along with guidance on how to ship the sanitizer.
